Our trip to Langkawi this time was awesome. It was a last minute plan from our canceled trip of Christmas Island by the travel agency we got at Matta Fair last February. We took Air Asia as our past long ride of the bus is a never to experience again. Touchdown bout 9.30am. Rented a Wira for RM240 for 4 days. Quite cheap, and be mindful that in Langkawi, not everything is as cheap as beer. Survey the net for the best bargains of hotels, car rentals, snorkeling, food locations and so on. We traced down at Wikitravel. It helps.
First stop was at the Underwater World. We’ve seen creatures probably as heavy heavy as me and as ugly as.. you figure it out.
We stayed at the Langkawi Boutique Hotel which cost us not as what we pay for. There isn’t much facility in the hotels. No phone in room, no room service or reception at late night, no lift and a distance away from rooms and lobby. Overall it was pretty.. bad.
The very first dinner we had was nice, a little salty in our dishes here and there. Overall, the place is warm with lantern everywhere, fresh seafood, wonderful ambiance and friendly attentive host. We went for Fried Vegetable Golden Mushroom, Golden Spices Prawn (Rita loves the sauce), Black Pepper Crab, Butter with Wheat Prawn (pic not available, ate it in hurry cause it looks goooood…) and Claypot Chicken With Salted Fish (very different, I love it alot). The best of all is that the price of the food is affordable, a lot cheaper than in KL. A gentle reminder, ask them go easy on the salt.
After dinner, we took a stroll walk by the beach at night. Breeze wind through our face, talk and laugh. We walk along until we got to a Babylon (Mat Lounge). Prices of mixed drinks is expensive, almost as KL price, coffee is bad, beer is OK. They have great band that turns every famous well known songs to reggae. The song from Coldplay – Fix You is a lot better then the original. Music is really good, breezing beaches and just relax. Band is only on weekend. A must place to visit.
Got up early, skip the breakfast at the hotel as it was a typical Malaysian buffet and headed to the Harbour Park for the bakery store called as “The Loaf”. It is jointly owned by our former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad as there is also another outlet at the Pavilion KL. The cafe is well presentable, with pasties lining up, 5 star table set sadly the service is terrible. It took awhile for us to ordered, and was only given a different set of menu, we dicovered after our meal. The meal came in as a disappointment. Cappuccino is served with whipped cream? Seriously? Its foam people. Whipped cream? Tun Mathathir’s Favourite, the lamb curry paste is good, but the lamb came out tough as a rubber, in fact it was hard. Lastly the Healty Breakfast Set bread is hard and tough and the price came up to a bomb. We would have to agree that the pastries is good, but to keep up the standard especially a well respected minister’s name should the dining experience not to be this disappointed.
So, yup we got our so called energy from the breakfast. hmm… we are ready for a high up gazillion stairs to the Tujuh Telaga water falls. We didn’t go the highest top of it, cause it seems that no one dare, so we found our spot and freshen up ourselves with the cold, clear river flow. It was beautiful and clean. Later we headed down for another gazillion stairs, both legs all shaken and we need food and water. Ordered coconut and the unforgetful moment of the excellent RM 2.50 Langkawi laksa. It’s good.. Wished we had more.
Next, we drove all the way to Tanjung Rhu Beach. It is alot more quite than in Pantai Chenang and Kok. It is like a private beach. Beautiful place. We took a swim as the weather is just nice, I excitedly just jump in for a swim. My sister says that it was her first time since she can remember swimming in the sea. And she loves it.
Back to Chenang, took bath at hotel and drove down to Kuah town for shopping and dinner. We shop at Teow Soon Huat Duty free store. I was so excited when I saw the chocolates and more when I saw the miniature liquor. Ooohh.. It was a paradise at that moment. Grab a basket and start filling it up.. And the results…
Our dinner this time is a lot better than yesterday and the price is just unbelievable. It is in the Kuah town. Originally we were focusing to visit the Wonderland restaurant as it is well known, but it was close that day, until a lady approached us and persuade us to eat at her restaurant. We never regret. 5 dishes for less than a hundred!! We ordered Fried Baby Kailan, Sizzling Spicy Prawn, Chilly Crab, Steam Siakap in Thai Style and Fried Squid. The best dinner we had that trip. Thanks to my sis, she loves the fish that she finished almost the whole fish and gravy. Surprisingly she hated sourish thai, guess she must have changed her mind.
Our third day we booked ourself for snorkeling at Pulau Payar (Marine Park) for RM200 per person. We were picked up from our hotel to Kuah Jetty Point to take a jetty ride to the Marine Park. It took bout 1 hour to reached there. Once, we got there we had short briefing by our guide. We first start with snorkeling around the marine and feeding the fish. Then we had our International buffet.. ya right.. then back to snorkeling or Shark Feeding. There were many “vegetarian” shark and fishes to feed. Very exciting, clear water, friendly fishes soft beach sand. Later we wash up and back to Jetty Kuah by 5pm.
Last stop, had Langkawi cendol and a bowl of Laksa. Wonderful time in Langkawi that food and others just blend in nicely. Love this trip. Better than before. Back to work… Boring..
